Indonesia is not a failed but a hilarious state (occasionally)

Dear mister President,

First of all Selamat Idul Fitri to you and all of your compatriots. But allow me to forget about further common courtesies and turn to the daily mundane issues.

Recently the Fund for Peace’s ”Failed State Index 2012“ indicated that Indonesia is among the states which are in the category “Very High Warning”. You of course off hand rejected any thought of RI being a “failed state” referring to the country’s good reputation in the world and it’s economic growth.

You are right. So I hereby want to express my support for your view. The Republic of Indonesia is not a failed state.

It definitely is a hilarious state occasionally in my perception though.

For instance when you yourself addressed MUI the other day and politely asked the clerics to cooperate in mending the national  horizontal, that is religious conflicts.  If that isn’t ironic what is? And where else a man with the status of former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman will be jailed for masterminding a crime passionnel  and after his conviction from inside his prison will accuse the president of involvement in a huge corruption case? Grotesque is a mere euphemism here. And where else in the world everybody carries on minding one’s own business when two judges appointed to be anti-graft-judges are being arrested -caught in the act actually-  for …. corruption? On top of that you rolled drums  of the war on corruption loudly only two days before! Daring is the least I can say, knowing you still are the figurehead of the pretty stained Democratic Party. Great timing, just brilliant funny timing too.

Because of all the jolly entertainment it offers I gladly though belated congratulate Indonesia on it’s 67th anniversary. The country which  – in spite of it’s respectable age- always kept it’s tremendous sense of absurdity and humour!

Your servant and beguiled and fascinated admirer of the ruling elite of the Republic of Indonesia,

Jerry van den Brink a.k.a. Colson
