KRIS

Today, 04.02.’10,  is a special day to us. A very happy and very special one.

We celebrate another achievement of Indonesian-Dutch cooperation.  The granddaughter got a nephew today. I mean the pelopor family of two has a third member now: Thursday, at 0.26,  Bonnie gave  birth to KRIS.  He really is a four kilo marvel.

After being in labour for hours Bonnie once more proved to be the brave and  cool lady she is. Minutes after Kris had been born  she  took this picture of her child and her husband, Pelopor. Well,  of my first grandson and youngest son.

geboorte-1

I think he is a real grandson: KRIS definitely is grand. Strapping and cute alike. And smart; I heard him cry bilingually already.

PS: This was the very first photo of KRIS:

Gefeliciteerd Papa Colson! I thought it would be another girl, but it’s a BOOY!!! I will have the chance to see him, and you, after 13 February :) Will stay back in HOlland for appr. 2 months. See you soon and Gefeliciteerd!

  • CONGRATS!! :D May you have many fun hours with the new born and the happy parents!

  • Colson, gefeliciteerd met de geboorte van Kris! Wat een mooie baby and ja zeker is hij a grand! Nu heb je wel een paar!

  • van harte gefeliciteerd opa!

  • Wavatar Gerwin

Congratulations to all of you. Bonnie, what an achievement. 8 pounds?! My goodness. One might say that he alraedy looks like his dad, but hey, I haven’t seen you guys in ages so I will not make such claims. A gorgeous guy he is (the baby as well)! And giving birth at such a time… I think that is devastating as well. Let the kraamverzorgster take good care of you two.

Ingmar, life will never be the same again. But in a positive way, of course. Sure, he will pee all over the place every once and a while and you will be scared as hell from time to time (when all food comes out the way it came in, or when temperatures reach sky high). But having a small one so grateful for any attention you can give is just something that cannot be compensated for. I could not imagine before the birth of our son what it would be like to be a dad, but luckily it will all happen automatically.

Is your address still the same, guys? After all, the Dutch tradition requires a card to be sent. And have you been asked to join the ‘generatie 2010′ project already?

Colson and Babes, congratulations on becoming grandparents for the second time. Here is another child awaiting to be spoiled (that is a grandparents’ obligation). I have no doubt that you have energy enough for the two of them. And, so they say, in the first year there is no way one can spoil a kid, so go offline for a while and do what has to be done. Do promise me, please, that when he gets older, you will tell him some positive stories about economists too (there is ample time to think of these stories still).

  • my my such adorable and lovely baby =]. congratulation opa for the new member of your family!

  • Hi Colson,

    Congratulations!
You mentioned “achievement of Indonesian-Dutch cooperation”?
Is the mother (your daughter in law) Indonesian ?
You named your son Pelopor ? does it originate from an Indonesian word (= pioneer) ?
    Just wondering.

  • @ sushi hunter: Thanks! And “See you soon” I consider to be a solemn promise..

@ mousey: It definitely is gonna be fun – you may bet on it ( and by the way: I’m an awesome grandpa – jusy ask granddaughter ask Devica Esha)

@ gerwin: Thanks so much. It indeed will be a privilege and pleasure to spoil the kid.

By the way I should add I really love some economics – to mention just one, Gerwin.

@ calvin: Isn’t he great indeed? In spite of over-population in the world I selfishly keep hoping for more.

    @ harry: Thanks.

Indeed both my eldest and my youngest son married an Indonesian lady. And on top of that my kate father-in-law was Indonesian as well.

As for the name “Pelopor”: that’s the alias my son took for blogging. So it’s not his real name, which is a Scandinavian one by the way.

  • hoi, the proud grandparent!
    gefeliciteerd.. voor je nieuwe kleinzoon..
i hope i can visit him as soon as possible.
i bet you can’t wait to ask him out and buy him lots of sweets.

  • @ rizki: Thanks. I guess he will love to meet you …You know where to find him. And you’re absolutely right: it is my privilege as a granddad to spoil him. And I definitely will.

  • Colson & Pelopor,
Congratulations! It is a boy and what a wonderful name he has. Kris, the guru of Vishnu.

Enjoy the precious time with him. Before you know, he’ll grow fastly.

  • Congratulation for the good collaboration of Indonesian-Dutch, Pelopor family. :)
You can create one more blog dedicated for your grandchildren then. I’ve dropped by Devica’s blog the other day. :) Is it still up?

  • @ Lorraine: Thanks ( also on behalf of Bonnie and Pelopor). And of course we ( his grandparents) will devour every second of his presence and devour him with kisses in the process. And by the way: you’re right: Kris is short for Krishna.

@ Sakuralady: In my opinion if ever an multinational enterprise was successful, it is this one.

Thanks for reminding me of Devica Esha’s blog. I’ve been pretty negligent. I should ( and shall) mend my ways.

By the way: she is a glorious and sweet princess who will be two next week and doubtlessly is the one female human being with whom I’m in love more than with anybody else ever before.. I gather the same is happening now with Kris – he will be the first (little) man ever I’m totally crazy about…

  • Wavatar a0z0ra

What a precious lil baby! I’m so loving the b&w pic. Congrats!

  • @ aOzOra: Thanks. Yes, babies usually are enchanting and “own” babies are knocking you off your feet. I agree with you on the picture – actually [due to the camera and my son's skills (??)] there is a series of fabulous photos apart from ordinary but endearing snapshots.

  • congratulations to all pelopor crew! happy grandpa, happy dad, happy mom, and super excited little camper, the great KRIS! welcome to the world, Kris…. I’m sure someday in the future we’ll try to befriend each other :)

  • @ mer: Thanks a lot! I’ll pass your congratulations on the to happy parents. As for you and Kris befriending: I really hope so. Though it probably will have to take place in Jakarta, because that is where the young family will be moving pretty soon.

By the way: I apologize for being happy you’re back from the honeymoon – which I guess was an extraordinary one.

  • Wavatar delvi

wah congrats opa! (m so so sorry for being too late in celebrating this jubilation. but your cucu is really cute. Hope he’ll grow up a healthy and brave boy.( mmmmm……curious why pelopor and bonnie named their son Kris)

  • @ delvi: Thank you! He is great. Getting more handsome by the day.

About his name.. His parents thought it wise to have him registered as Wisanggeni Dewa Krishnahatma. Plus his family name of course. Don’t ask me why they choose these odd names. But fortunately we may call him Kris.

  • Wavatar delvi

aih the name sounds sooooooo Javanese.

  • I hear people across NL sighing when they have to call out his full name:)

btw, how do you translate ‘kraambezoek’ to English/Bahasa? I cant recall anything other than just ‘visit’ or ‘besuk’

  • @ delvi: I guess it is. Weird. His parents choose probably what they think is a series of exciting names, but just a single name like “Kris” ( or Chris, or Harry, or Peter, or Bill or Jacques or Jan or Piet or Tom – or Jerry of course) would have been so much more convenient for my grandson. And for us.

@ triesti: I don’t think any Dutchman will ever memorize the full name with the correct pronunciation. Being the grandfather I have to. So I’ve been practising for over a week now. In vain.

As for “kraambezoek” I doubt whether there is any correct translation. My dictionary tells me it should be “lying-in visit” – but I don’t believe this covers all of the typical emotional value of ‘kraambezoek”.

  • to my knowledge Wisanggeni is a character in Javanese Mahabarata, son of Arjuna who later moksa. it means fire poison. Dewa = god, krishnahatma I dont know the meaning of it, but I think it’s sanskrit for krishna (in Java its a name to describe someone with dark skin, refering lord Krishna), but I am not sure about what hatma mean, is it a ‘kid’? anyway that’s my attempt to decipher your grandson’s name… am I any close to the meaning of it? if so, do I get any pressie? :D

  • @ triesti: Thanks. I owe you. Whether or not you’re absolutely right I don’t know yet. I have to ask Pelopor ( who’s real name is Ingmar) and Bonnie ( who’s real name, well one of them, is Dian). And of course if your analysis proves to be correct I immediately invite you for kraambezoek- and dinner afterwards.

Update: I checked. And you are right. So you deserve a present. As for the Hatma-part in the name: it means something like “from many different sources”, referring, I guess, to the many different ethnic origins of the little guy.

  • Hello opa Colson, congratulation for the new member of your family. Hopefully the baby will makes your days more cheerful.

  • @ tikno: Thanks a lot. And Kris definitely makes life even better than before. He already behaves like he is the one and only ( grand)son and heir.
