Today I’m chauvinistic. No excuse but there is a convincing reason I think: the Dutch national football squad delivered a perfect performance last night at the European championship in Bern:

We can be very proud indeed! And ´Het oranje legioen’ (legion of orange?) can make Swiss unsafe with the Trom-pet, flags, banners and beer.

How unfortunate, huh?! I was so hoping that we would just loose the first two matches and then could forget about all this soccer stuff. Turns out we beat the world champion. I am afraid there will be too much orange for me, in the upcoming weeks.

@Gerwin: I’m sorry. I got carried away. In due time, after the finals I hope, I will come to my senses again. But up till that moment I pray and wish, a majority of our compatriots, without the help of any drug, will be high. On sheer pleasure. Let’s indulge in this totally innocent version of nationalism..

And, though it seems you belong to a dissenting minority of football haters, we, the fans, still love you. But please, look at that suberb goal: the assist, a header, by Dirk Kuyt and the magical shot by Wesley Sneyder – a real piece of art. Maybe you will be converted…

Hi Colson,

I don’t see any harm of being proud of the Dutch Team. The boys won from the world champion 3-0 while, before the match, it seemed like people here didn’t have such highly expectations (anymore) from Van Basten’s way of coaching.

In fact, I’ve noticed more and more orange attributes hanging in my neighbourhood eversince the historical match last monday.

Gefeliciteerd voor het Oranje team!! Die Deutschers zijn weer gespannen voor vanavond. Mijn man zegt niemand kan werken op zijn bureau! De voetbal mania maakt iedereen, inclusieve mijnzelf, zenuwachtig. LOL.

Ah, that’s what I long for: Indonesian support for the ‘Van Basten Boys’. It’s very welcome. Thanks. We all hope “we” will meet the Germans in the finals – and beat them. If (IF!) that happens the first round is on me.

viva oranje!!! i still remember how great it felt to be in the oranje crowd when Oranje team won the game in 2004 (against Sweden)..
i hope when i am there (if my visa is done in time) in July, Dutch will still play… i’ll bring my oranje t-shirt!
